About Us

What We Teach

Shuri-Ryu Karate of St. Louis teaches Grandmaster Robert A. Trias' final evolution of Karate known as Okinawan Shuri-Ryu Karate-Do.  Students also learn a mixture of self-defense techniques from a variety of martial arts such as Aikido, Judo, Jujitsu, White Crane Fist, Filipino Martial Arts, Okinawan, and modern weapons.

Beginning in March 2024, Aikido Classes will be available at Five Oaks on Warson (Olivette Community Center, 1200 N. Warson Rd.  Olivette, MO 63132).

Children

Studies indicate that Karate is a good activity to aid in children learning discipline, respect for parents and teachers, self-confidence, increasing attention span for schoolwork, and increased physical coordination.  The belt system sets challenging but achievable goals that will help your child learn to focus and work together in a team environment.  The self-protection taught to children is practical and age-appropriate always emphasizing a need to seek a peaceful resolution to conflict when possible.

Adults

Karate is a great way to relieve stress and a great way to aid in increasing someone's fitness level.  Along the way, adults will notice that their self-confidence and clarity of thought will increase as they learn practical ways of self-protection and enjoy a great workout.

Our Martial Arts Philosophy

I shall conduct myself in a manner which will reflect credit upon myself and society.

I shall be loyal to my school and to the art it teaches.

I shall be honest and exercise integrity with the purpose of developing cooperation and trust with my fellow karate-ka and my teachers.

I shall exercise restraint in the use of my karate knowledge, employing it only in fair competition, in defense of my life, my family, or my country.
