What We Teach
Shuri-Ryu Karate of St. Louis teaches the American Karate Pioneer, Grandmaster Robert A. Trias' final evolution of karate known as Okinawan Shuri-Ryu Karate-Do. Shuri-Ryu is a traditional form of karate composed in America and based upon the traditional principles and techniques found in both Okinawan and Japanese karate. Students learn a well-balanced karate curriculum as well as self-defense techniques from a variety of martial arts such as Aikido, Judo, Jujitsu, White Crane Fist, Filipino Martial Arts, Okinawan Kobudo, and modern weapons.
Children
Studies indicate that Karate is a good activity to aid in children learning discipline, respect for parents and teachers, self-confidence, increasing attention span for schoolwork, and increased physical coordination. The belt system sets challenging but achievable goals that will help your child learn to focus and work together in a team environment. The self-defense taught to children is practical and age-appropriate and always emphasizes a need to seek a peaceful resolution to conflict when possible.
Adults
Karate is a terrific way to relieve stress and enjoy a great workout. Along the way, adults will notice that their self-confidence and clarity of thought increasing as they learn practical ways of self-defense and strategies for the de-escalation of conflict.
